Troubleshoot:After restarting computer still get message to restart computer for updates to take effect! Error

After restarting computer still get message to restart computer for updates to take effect!

When I restart my computer (running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) because of updates, installing or uninstalling software, etc.,  it gives me the message box again that I need to restart the computer for updates to take effect.  When this first showed
up almost right after I got this computer (a few weeks ago), I thought it was just a fluke and I did stupidly restart the computer 2 or 3 times in case the message was correct and I needed to do this - with a new system who knows, right? (i3 530 Gateway) Anyway,
no sir, it shows up EVERY time I shut down or restart the computer.  What can I do to fix this?  It's very annoying!

your other thread in mind, I suspect that the only way you're ever going to resolve your problems will be by formatting the hard-drive & then doing a clean install of Windows...

I think you'll (eventually) find that all of your problems are being caused by a hijackware infection, one which AVG didn't catch (and which MSE can't detect now
because the computer was already infected when you installed it).
Back-up any personal data (none of which should be considered 100% trustworthy at this point) then format the HDD & do a clean install of Windows.
Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT fix this!
HOW TO do a clean install of Win7: See "Using the Custom installation option and formatting the hard disk" section of

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7
After the clean install, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" so take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting the machine to the internet
or a local network (i.e., other computers) and before using a flash drive or SDCard that isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted:
4 steps to help protect your new computer before you go online
     http://www.microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspx
NB: The Norton free-trial that came preinstalled on the computer when you bought it will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled.
You MUST uninstall the free-trial
and download/run the
Norton Removal Tool again before installing any updates
and before installing your new anti-virus application (i.e., MSE).
If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.
Good luck! Over & out...

After VISTA SP2 update IE7 no longer connects!

After VISTA SP2 update IE7 no longer connects!

I have been monitoring some of the other discussions related to this problem and have done just about eveything suggested without a solution.

My pc is a Toshiba Satellite laptop.  I have connected wireless and hardwired direct connect to the router, they both have the same trouble.

The bottom line is that after loading the SP2 VISTA update IE7 will open but will not connect to any sites.
If I remove SP2 it workes fine again.  With SP2 installed and VISTA in safe mode with network IE7 works OK.  SFC shows no problems.
Clean boot makes
no difference.
Even when IE7 won't work I can get VISTA updates from Microsoft and virus definitions from Symantec.
I can ping and tracert with no trouble.

For security reasons I don't want to have a pc that can not be updated.   I hope someone has a fix for this trouble.

Hi,

Try disabling the security software running on the computer.
If possible then uninstall security software and check.

Good Luck!

Don't Download Malware

Where are you getting the download?

There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.

Don't install download manager

Many sites suggest or require you to install an installer or a download manager before allowing you to download a program you may be interested in downloading. These tools almost always cause your computer more problems and may even have malware or other spyware. Avoid any site claiming anything must be installed first before you can continue with your download.

Avoid advertisements on download pages

To help make money and pay for the bandwidth costs of supplying free the software, the final download page may have ads. Watch out for anything that looks like advertisements on the download page. Many advertisers try to trick viewers into clicking an ad with phrases like "Download Now", "Start Download", or "Continue" and that ad may open a separate download.

Cancel or deny any automatic download

Some sites may automatically try start a download or give the appearance that something needs to be installed or updated before the site or video can be seen. Never accept or install anything from any site unless you know what is downloading.

Troubleshooting:After update my Sleep mode is broken Error

After update my Sleep mode is broken

I had my computer set to go to sleep after about 20 minutes or so and when i would wake it up, it would immediately show the login screen and i woudl type my password and then the desktop would show up right away.
Well then I installed some "update"
and now when i go to wake my computer up it starts all the way back from my Bios, running the bios initialization and essentially starting windows as if i just turned my computer on, then it takes forever to load up the password screen and after i enter my
password it takes another few minutes to load my desktop.
This is unacceptable its actually faster to shut my computer down and turn it back on!

Hi,
Could you please tell us more on the update that caused this issue?
Method1:
I suggest you to perform System Restore back to a point in time before this issue started.
Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs.
Once you confirm your restore point, System Restore restarts your computer.
a.
Open System Restore by clicking the Start button.
In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore.‍ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.

b.
Access the below links for more information on System Restore:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/System-Restore-frequently-asked-questions

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Method2:
I also suggest that you check if your input devices are set to wake up from sleep from the Device Manager.

a.
To change this setting, type in Device Manager into the start menu search box, and then browse down to “Network Adapters” and find the devices like, Mouse, Keyboard and Network Adapter.
b.
Right-click it and choose Properties from the menu.
In the resulting dialog, choose the Power Management tab.
c.
Uncheck the box next to “Allow this device to wake the computer”.
Refer the link below for more information:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266283
Method3:

I suggest that you go to your computer manufactures website and download the latest drivers for your Video card.
Check this article that will give you different options on upgrading drivers:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/The-hunt-for-drivers-How-to-find-Windows-Vista-drivers-for-all-your-hardware

Method4:
If you still come across the issue you may have to put the computer in a Clean Boot State to check for the issue.
Below are the steps to put the computer in a Clean Boot state.

To perform a Clean Boot on a computer that is running Windows 7:

1.
Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

2.
On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

3.
Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

4.
Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.

5.
Click OK.

6.
When you are prompted, click Restart.

7.
After the computer starts, check if the issue is fixed.

If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the following KB article to narrow down the exact source:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Also, see the section on how return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.

I hope the above information helps you.

Regards,
Manasa P – Microsoft Support.

Cleaning your computer, components, and peripherals help keep everything in good working condition and helps prevent germs from spreading. You can't image how dirty the inside of your computer case can get. All the dust and dirt is going to prevent proper air flow and may even prevent the fan from working.
