Battery life is rediculously shortened when brightness is at 100%

Right now I'm having a problem with my battery life.
I'm using a HP 8710w Workstation Laptop with a standard, and recently replaced battery. 

The issue I'm having is that when I try to run my computer using the battery and have the brightness turned up, the battery will die in 10-20 minutes.
Considering when the brightness is at the lowest level I get 2+ hours on it, it seems that theres a problem.
I'm aware that having the brightness turned up all the way will consume more battery life, but this seems excessive.
The biggest problem is that none of the warning notifications come up either, so it just hard shuts down, no hibernation or anything.
And then
the biggest stumper is that when i plug it back in and turn it on, the battery meter doesn't say it's charging from 0% or something, more like 50-60% ???

It just seems like the computer isn't recognizing the fact that the brightness is up.
I've tried fixing the power settings but nothing seems to make a difference!

Is there a solution for this!?

The power management driver you use is not native to Windows - it was supplied by the manufacturer of your laptop.
I would download a new driver and/or get in touch with their helpdesk.

Windows Restore - Totally Fix All Errors including Battery life is rediculously shortened when brightness is at 100%

• Click on the Start button on the Taskbar.
• Type "System Restore" (without quotes) in the Search box and hit Enter or,
• Click on System Restore (when you see System Restore pop up  in the list of search results).
• Make sure the "Recommended restore" radio button is checked on the restore utility window.
• Click on Next and follow the instructions given.

Note: There is the option on the restore utility to select "Choose a different restore point". Unless you have a specific reason to select a different date and time than what Windows recommends, just select the recommended option stated in the steps above. If you choose to select another one, follow these steps:

Click on that desired date and time, and Windows 7 will perform a scan for any affected programs in that restore point.

Once completed, click Next and follow the instructions given.

Once you have selected the restore point, your system will start the restoring process, after which you will have to restart the system.
