Browser choice update

Running window xp, home edition version 2002 service pack 3.
I have installed the update of the browser choice through the updates ..when
 I have restarted the pc it didn’t not make an icon on the desktop, even though its been installed where I have checked in the history of updates.
pls could I know as to why I cant see the icon of the browser choice on my desktop?

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.
