Can't turn off the Formula option in Excel 2007

Good morning,
I am working in an Excel 2007 document.
I am using a sum formula in a cell/column, but it shows the formula instead of the result.
The "Show formulas in cells instead of their calculated results" option is NOT checked.
Where do I go from here?

It sounds like the cell is formatted as text.
Select the cell then
 
Right click|Format cells|Select 'general' OK out
 
Tap F2 and then ENTER.

Open Action Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, clicking Review your computer's status.

Make sure your computer has at least the minimum amount of random access memory (RAM) required to run the program that is displaying the error. Look for the program requirements online or in the packaging information.
