Tech Support: 7 says "No internet access" but I have internet access. But not access to networked machines

7 says "No internet access" but I have internet access. But not access to networked machines

I manage a network of about 300 computers.
We have 3 Windows 7 machines on campus.
I love it.
However, Windows 7 comes with one annoyance that I am sick of dealing with.
Whats more, I work for a school and one of the 7 users is the Headmaster, and she has noticed this.
No user has complained about not being able to hit the internet or the network, yet occasionally 7 will pop up the "No Internet Access" icon in the system tray.
The only difference between those users and me is that I upgraded my laptop from XP to 7 (well, I know it isnt a true upgrade, but you know what I mean.)
The problem with me is that I have a laptop and EVERYTIME I log in to my domain in 7, the internet connection icon takes a few minutes to finally say "Ok, you are connected".
And it shows me connected via my CAT5 cable.
Then suddenly, that icon goes away
and is replaced by my wireless connection icon.
Mouse-over says "MY DOMAIN" (Unauthenticated) Internet access"
I can connect just fine to the internet and I connect perfectly to my exchange server on my network, but browsing comptuers in my network places doesnt happen: "MY DOMAIN (no, it doesnt say that, it says my actual domain) is not accessible.
You might not
have permissions...etc"
Let me answer your questions...
yes, I do have permissions.
I have been the network admin and had the same user account for 10 years here.
I can log on to any other XP computer on campus and access the network just fine.
What is worse is that we run several network applications, none of which I can use now as they all require mapped network drives.
And I can't map a network drive because I can not access my network.

I am happy to answer any questions, I am just sick of dealing with this and with me about to deploy 30 Windows 7 machines this summer, I would love to find an answer to this.
Thanks in advance.
